Lessons from a child…

I wanna walk by the road, and just simply stare…
at all colourful things, without any worldly care!

Stare at the people, the cars, and the old tree…
Without getting a weird look, oh! just being free!

While in the crowd, sing a song or hum a rhyme,
Not worried, of anything except being home on time!

Playing under the sun, no worries of sweat or skin tone..
I miss those beautiful days, God! why have I grown!

Figuring ways to spend the dollar, and the dime,
Which I earned helping someone, in my ‘free’ time!

While I have a lot of them now, but no time to sit and spend..
Not even at the ice cream shop, at the streets end!

I can still roam the roads, but can’t stop and stare..
Coz I know I will end up looking stupid, if I show any care!

Can you now stand on the road, and just simply stare?
At people, at cars, without mending your hair!

Back then, the looks never really mattered to you,
A stain of green, some dirt, on your favourite T shirt which was blue!

Now, you want to look right, even if you were walking on the street..
One amongst the many, suited, booted in a fleet!

I now, realise I can never go back to that time,
Even if it meant parting with the dollars, till the last dime!

But one thing I know, and I know this for sure..
That life would never, be so unfair and obscure!

Today I miss, my yesterday… And tomorrow I will miss today..
Good thing, I learnt when I was young, of ‘living’ each day!

While I know, I can still go on, and write few more lines…
In the end they will just be cribbing and sorry whines!

So now I “live” each day, to the fullest as the new one arrive..
And that means, I will keep that child in me alive!
