Turnaround Time: iPad


Remember this old diagram of the Product Life Cycle that I used in my assignment

Well today I stumbled upon an interesting video on YouTube which I thought was apt to be blogged about, especially in the Technology section!

The Video is dated back to 2007 and we can see Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in a Joint Executive Conference for the Wall Street Journal. Keep in mind that at this juncture, apple only had just launched the iPhone and was tasting early success ( and some smashed glass brickbats)

A perfect example of predicting the HBT five years down the line. Infact if you see the video again and think of a product that Mr. Gates is referring to circa 2010, you will probably be thinking about a iPad! Pretty ironical eh? Especially considering that the man sitting right next to him probably took the inspiration and bit the bullet! Either that or Microsoft was too slow to react to transform desirables into doable and an early prototype. Whatever it is the idea of the video is not to spark a controversy between the fanboys but to just explain how the response time matters.

The iPad has already got some early success, In a perpetually connected environment this is definitely the “second device”  positioned between the PC and the Phone, an entire universe of applications for this, right from being an in automobile entertainment system, to a hand held computing device for a broad range of services. Its almost like a rehashed version of a neat, sleek palmtop!

The Zune shedding its genes for the Windows Mobile 7, I guess its time to wait for Microsoft’s version of the “second device”.
