Well, rooting isnt such a bad thing.. but then again I was waiting for the official update to be around… and that wait just keeps getting longer and longer. So now, why this post? because there is a way to get the FROYO upgrade without rooting on the DROID… (too bad it isnt up for Milestone yet)
- Grab the file from Android Central, or from nexeo, or from Google
- If you download from Google, remember to rename it as Update.zip
- Place it on the root of your SD card
- Switch off the phone
- Restart while holding the X key, this will take you to the bootloader
- When you see the exclamation mark, hold the volume up button and press the camera button
- Choose the option apply sdcard:update.zip
- Ignore the cache error if it comes
- Reboot
Troubleshooting:
- If you get a sign error and it doesn update the phone, redownload the package and try again.
- If you get a Status 7 error, you probably need to get to 2.1 first…
Its a DIY work for an official release, do it on your own risk….. and if you are geeky enough then please rehash the package for Milestone 😉
