Half glass of water version 2.0

Remember that ‘brilliant’ exercise/example of knowing your outlook to life that trainers/preachers use?
They give you a glass… Half filled with water.. And half empty… And ask you the trick question of what do you see? I call it a trick question as the answer to it is endless.. OFCOURSE the most popular stereotype answer to it is that the glass is half full.. If you said this, you get branded as a positive thinker… If you answer it as to be half empty, you would be branded as a negative/pessimist thinker! Cause you focus only on what’s missing…and hence lose out on the Larger picture…

Well next time someone gave you this brilliant analogy tell them the larger picture… Which is far more larger than what they said…

The larger picture is that the glass is indeed half empty… Probably because the other half quenched someones thirst, or someone did a bad job in filling it up, or may be its waiting for some alcohol and ice cubes!

Tell this to your HR and get ready to be fired!

Well the larger picture of why that analogy is different…

The glass Symbolizes the “Capacity”.. The filled water symbolizes “Performance” … The empty space Symbolizes the “Potential”

What the half filled glass indicate is that the glass has performed half its capability, and can still potentially be filled to brim.

Just like a lot of us, playing to our strengths, our comfort area and being content with our accomplishment! According to the version 1.0 of the test you are a ‘positive thinker’ … I ask why? How does limiting your ability, or guessing accurately your limited performance make you a positive thinker… I would rather term it as a lazy arse!

The ones who knows their current potential, their current performance and are striking towards it are probably more positive than the lazy arse!

It shows the traits of assessing the current performance, the current potential.. And the current capability/capacity! How does fairly gauging it makes you negative? Beats me.

So the next time someone sheds this knowledge on to you… Give them the version 2 of it. If they don’t laugh then give them the version 1.5 where I wrote the jokes. Hope they laugh.. If they don’t. Stop reading this blog!

Generation Y, seeking answers.. Disturbing stereotypes!
