Mass Suicide – What next?

There goes my right to speech, there goes the right to protest as well… It’s quite Ironical that you need prior police permission for any kind of public gathering. Without which of course, it will considered as illegal… I am not sure if legality covers the scope of bringing or building a bomb and or exploding it with an intent to kill innocent civilians. I don’t know if a permit is obtained for the same either.

Over the last week, me and my friend have been trying hard to obtain a police clearance and it seems unlikely. We even tried to shift the location to Azad Maidan, apparently the only area in Mumbai where you are allowed to protest! I hope the Government takes a cue from it, and earmarks a place where it is legal to explode bombs as well.

We even spoke to a senior public servant who wishes to remain anonymous. He said a very valid thing… Over the last week, there has been a lot of progress … these are progress in more ‘light a candle’ road shows, or a ‘sign online petitions’ causes or ‘whore crying’ like\unlike my blog. Nothing of which translates into any concrete action. And the ever brooding media jumping on to a statement made here, a statement made there and blow it out of proportions in a bid to sell. Ofcourse I do agree no one can stop another attack like this from happening, what we should rather focus on doing is make it difficult from happening by being more cautious and concious! Selling hot news is just making the administration (the already slow one) focus on all the not so important things rather than address the broader issue.
Nevertheless as far as the people are concerned,
It took exactly one weekend for the so called resilience to get into silence mode and then into re-peat mode.

Our ‘friend’ said something very simple… be the watchdog. Ensure there is more public action. Don’t waste time accusing the Government, because then you are NO different from the PR/Media channels which wasted a lot of bandwidth.

Makes sense…

The aim of the protest was to also involve people, especially the kind who are socially responsible. The idea is NOT to make a huge community that houses arm chair politicians or good debaters/cribbers, but to involve people who wouldn’t mind stepping into the mess to solve it.

Involve private sector wherever possible and encourage new ideas which would help the community live safely at the same time the private sector benefit from it.

Give the ever hungry media real stories they should rather pick up. If they don’t, we will spread them as news.  There is a lot to be done, there is a lot we wish seeing change. At the end of the day, we aspire to be the change and foresee the change.

As a first step join the social media community and watch out for updates. Links for the same would be posted here soon. We would pick up social causes and drive them in whatever capacity we can and share them with the authorities who are supposed to act upon them.

Facebook

As far as the meet is concerned… I guess its better to not add misery to the already miserable state.
