Although many blogs have reported that the duke 125 is Ure release early next quarter and can come to India, I have a different opinion. And no this is not another of this have-internet-will-copy-and-Blog blogs!
Why the 125 won’t come to India?
Fortunately or unfortunately the Indian two wheelers market is cubic capacity driven market. No pun intended for the word driven.
The only product that has been somewhat successful in breaking this barrier has been the YAMAHA R15. That is thanks to its wonderful performance in every other aspect. So can’t the ktm put up a similar show? I guess no… Why? Cause its highly unlikely that they would add a front fairing to the Bike like YAMAHA did, even if they did it would not be able to out spec the current league of performance bikes that we have!
The 125 is a bike for Europe and so it would meet the stringent performance norms there. Which implies it won’t be a ‘performer’ in our market!
So what could come to India?
Speculations: a retuned 4 stroke mill from the katooms smallest 4 stroke engine (250cc) single cylinder with a new bore stroke spec. It might be lowered to 200cc as it would not make sense to bring it at 250 mark at a price lower to the ninja! Also if it was a 250 it would spoil the party for an indigenous product from Bajaj.
So what is a good range for the product..
150-200cc mill
80-160k price tag..
Is this possible? Yeah its possible if they plonk the engine to the same duke 125 chassis..
What could be another alternative.. This only comes from a greed point of view. It could be the same 250cc or the 400cc mill mated with a fairing like the RC and would be a smaller RC for the world, made in India.
My best bet? Option A
Oh and how could the duke 125 come to India when both ktm and Bajaj has been harping on the fact that the bike is being made in India!
