If your SmartPhone has been acting dumb for some reasons for the past few weeks, and not latching on the network. Chances are that the changes around are to be blamed.
Most 3G enabled phones had the default configuration to latch to 3G or the 2G networks automatically. Since we never had 3G network, it would latch on to the 2G network as default. Now things have changed.
We have 3G enabled networks and so the phone tries to latch to the 3G network, for which it may not be authorized to, and gives up on it! The result, phone remaining out of network, or rapid battery drain due to the consistent efforts of the phone to try latch to the network!
So how do I fix it?
Simple, switch to a 2G network for the time being. When 3G is rolled out (and you have subscribed for it), change it back to 3G & 2G option!
Ok, and how do I do that?
On a BlackBerry:
Menu > Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options >Change Network Mode to “2G” from the drop down!
On a Android based phone:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Check the “Use only 2G networks” check box
On a Windows Powered Phone:
Settings > Phone Settings > Services > Band Selection > Change the option from UMTS\Auto or GSM\2G
On a iPhone:
Settings > General > Network > Toggle the Enable 3G into off
On a Symbian Device (Nokia)
Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Change the Network mode from UMTS\Dual mode to GSM
OR
Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Network > Network mode > Select only Gsm
