Is the CBR250R a good buy?

Finally some time to blog about two wheels!
Though I have a series of topic in my head, and some on my phone drafts, I will skip to this hot topic on whether or not the CBR250R is worth the buck?

Well there isn’t a short answer to this one, so may be this blog post would help someone to decide. Read on.

Why should you buy a CBR250R?

1) If this is going to be your ‘big’ bike for some time now.
– Go for it, if you are still stuck at the Indian big bikes waiting for an upgrade. Trust me no Indian manufacturer can bring a CBR killer for the next 10months!
– Go for it, if this is going to be your big sporty bike age wise. That is, if you don’t want to spend more money as of now. Buy it. The trademark Honda reliability would ensure its easy to maintain, and build to last.
– Go for it, if you aren’t really a track addict. Chances are if you are reading this, you aren’t, else you wouldn’t have looked beyond the R15 for sometime.

Why should you NOT buy a CBR250R?

– Don’t buy it, if the idea is to take it to tracks. Its a VFM bike more for a learner but not a track tool. Stick to the R15 for tracks. Or the Ninja 250. But do remember one spill of the Ninja would set you back for atleast a R15s worth. Heck! I would keep a R15, soup it from http://www.raceconcepts.in and keep it as my track tool!
– Don’t buy it, if you already have a Ninja… Its pointless. Comparing these two bikes are futile. Unless you want to use one of them as an everyday tool AND have loads of cash$
– Don’t buy it, if you already have a Pulsar220, Karizma, R15! Duh, stop looking at disbelief. But seriously, there are only two reasons where its logical.
One – if the existing bike is dying.
Two – if this is going to be your last big bike

No point buying the CBR @ 1.5L more for a little more CCs, a single digit BHP increase.
Hold on to the money, buy something bigger – better.

Will add more to the list if I could think more, or if you asked more!
Cheers!

I would rather choose the 1990’s CBR 250 “RR” over the cbr 250 R anyway.
The old RR had 4 cylinders and could rev to 19,000 rpm. Also 45 BHP!!!That’s adrenaline overdose right there. Also seen videos of it touch 190 kmph on youtube, not sure if that’s the true top speed, but its fast! 😛

This new cbr is a lame bike tbh, sounds like a damn lawnmower. I could almost swear that the Bajaj Platina sounds more fierce….

    1. They were race bred machines man. Theres a bloody good reason why they dont make such bikes anymore.
🙂 Want an inline four? Go for a 600!

The CBR250R isnt lame, its very value for money, and is a good learners bike IMO. At the same time, its a good reason to upgrade from our sad old puny 150cc bikes.

You on the other hand seem to own a Ninja250… duh! Dont even look at the CBR and be proud of what you have!

  2. Surprising that you say it shouldn’t be taken to the track since the shorter wheelbase and good torque curve actually would make it a faster cornering machine. But to each his own I guess…hehe

    1. Oh hang on! I am not saying it shouldn’t be taken to track. Am just saying there are better options if track is your criteria!

I give you a choice: A CBR250R or a CBR150RR for the tracks? What would you prefer?

  3. tell me honestly sir is it worthy to by a brc250r with abs or just waste of money and i should go for something else…. on bike for 80 km or regular up & down on NH-8 and some ride of 10 km in city …

    1. Well, for that kind of usage you could look at the CBR250, the Pulsar220 or the Karizma variants as well.
The CBR with its premium price tag is best used when used to travel longer and harder. With thier (so far) shoddy after sales support it might not be the best choice for a every day commute.
I personally do not like the gadgetry of ABS, but then its just an individual perspective. Some people swear by it, it only makes life a bit simpler 🙂

  4. and if you see my physical way i have lost the spleen and penurious in the august 2008 due to bike sliped in heavy rain ..
and i have took the test drive of the apeche 180 abs , pular 220 and cbr250 with abs
and i have found the i am not able to put my lag on road.. while i stop due to short hight of 5’2″ …. and this is my first crossover/ sport type looking bike till date i have used hero honda street, hero honda spledar plus & honda aviatior.. and i have drive this bike only 60000 km…. so is it.. nice to know your opinion….
